Parallel Universe






We have heard and seen many existence of other dimensions, in the science fictional stories and movies. But is it actually possible to have more dimensions apart from the already existing four dimensions? Many physicists believe this idea and call it “parallel universe”. Parallel universe is defined as hypothetical universes which exist just like the one in which we are currently living. It consists of everything- energy, time, space, matter- just like our present universe.  Collection of multiple parallel universes is called as “multiple universes” or “multiverse”.

Concepts of multiverse are also evident in ancient Hindu cosmology. According to Hindu mythology, every universe has its own set of rules and is governed by its own god. Scientifically, it’s true. Every universe has its own sets of fundamental rules and is governed by it.

How did the idea of parallel universe came into existence? Mostly from science fiction but there is a scientific theory behind it. The idea of parallel universe came from String theory. In string theory, the multiverse is a theory in which our universe is not the only one existing; there are many such universes which exist parallel to ours. In simple terms, it may be possible that there are various versions of you- some of them are reading this blog, just like you and others are doing some other activities.

Now you may ask, what is the probability that you and your twin from multiverse are doing the same thing? Although scientists are still not sure about the shape of space-time, it is considered flat and it stretches infinitely. And since it is infinite, it must be repeating itself at some point as there are only finite numbers of ways in which the particles can be arranged. Due to this, there will be at least one twin which will be doing the exact same thing as you!

When the idea was put forth, everybody did not agree. Of course there were biased opinions. Some did not believe in it while others agreed to it so much that they even believed that it is possible to make contacts with these universes. Also later, it was mathematically proven the existence of parallel universe and math cannot be wrong! 

Today, scientists say that they have even found evidence of parallel universe. The ‘cold spot’ or the super void which was discovered recently seems to be the pass way to the parallel universe. It is particularly a very cold spot in space with many galaxies missing. It has baffled many scientists as it is not very common for such a void to occur.

 Another theory suggests that black holes are portals to the parallel universe. This theory is put forth by Professor Stephen Hawking. Professor Hawking told the audience at Harvard University that black holes "aren't the eternal prisons they were once thought". He added: "Things can get out of a black hole, both from the outside and possibly through another universe."

Since the discovery of these two theories mentioned above, many scientists have started working more vigorously on the concept of parallel universe. However if we do discover parallel universe and find a way to connect with it, we shall have made a major discovery in the field of astrophysics!

RETROGRADE AND PROGRADE

Since childhood we have learnt that all the planets go around the Sun. Meaning, the planets and other celestial objects rotate around the Sun in specific directions. But did you know that not all follow the same directions? Some follow the Sun’s rotation while some go in the opposite direction. Worm Hole

Wormhole is hypothesized or theoretical tunnel between two points in the universe. It is supposed to act as a shortcut between the two points. The idea of wormhole was put forth by Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen in the year 1935. They used the theory of general relativity to propose these tunnels. According to these physicists, wormholes act as bridges through space-time. Wormholes are considered as consistent connections with general theory of relativity, yet there existence remains hypothetical.   The wormhole can connect two long distances points (like a billion light years away) or can connect two short distances (few meters apart).
